Ever heard of a project that took nine years to fully implement?

Yeah… I lived it.

My first experience in implementation wasn’t in a sleek corporate office. It was while working as a correctional officer.

Back then, I was a “tech person” simply because I wasn’t afraid of a keyboard. That small edge got me a seat at the table for an RFP process, where I helped select a software solution for the county.

And then? I stayed.

• While working full-time in corrections, I:
• Helped configure the system
• Wrote the 350-page jail user manual (yes, I still remember the page count)
• Advised on features and functions for the jail module
• Trained staff across shifts

Through company mergers, buyouts, and multiple software overhauls, I stuck with it—because I believed in what we were building.

• That project taught me the reality of SaaS:
• It’s messy
• It’s complex
• It’s human

And it’s never just about the tech. It’s about persistence.

That project?

It taught me that software might be built in sprints, but real implementation takes endurance.

I caught the SaaS bug after that—and I’ve been sprinting ever since.
