I used to think hobbies were a nice-to-have. Something you pick up when the emails stop and the to-do list is finally empty. Spoiler: the list never empties. The emails never stop. And hobbies? They’re not just a break from work—they’re what make you better at it.

For me, it’s the random creative projects—the late-night doodles, the pop culture art, the dogs who demand right now to go for a walk—that remind me how to see problems differently. That recharge the part of my brain that gets stuck when I’m deep in strategy or stuck in a client issue.

I’ve had some of my best SaaS ideas while writing that bestselling novel that I'll never actually sell or arguing with my dogs about whether it’s snack time again.

Hobbies aren’t a distraction. They’re cross-training. They’re the secret to staying creative when the sprint feels endless. So take the walk. Doodle the thing. Bake the bread. Your work will be better for it.
